What with its strong data-base on environment and restoration and access to up-date information from a variety of national and international sources and multi-disciplinary skills and expertise of its in-house team, GEC is well placed to undertake consultancy assignments. In fact, this function is developing into one of its major thrust areas. This covers a wide range of issues. One of the first projects was the ecological restoration of mining sites of Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation. For the Gujarat Maritime Board, the project on the Alang Ship-breaking yard, the consultancy covered its spatial and sectoral linkages and ecological restoration of the area. GEC also collected data for the Department of Ocean Development which helped in the preparation of the Coastal Zone Management Plan for the Gulf of Kachchh and Khambhat.
