Awareness Generation
An effective and successful communication is the key to generating ethos of conservation and awakening the consciousness of all sections of the society. Gujarat Ecology Commission conducts Awareness programmes for conservation of some of the important and ecologically sensitive areas like mangroves, areas prone to the process of desertification, Wet-land areas etc. These awareness programmes include ‘Rath-Yatras’, Street plays, Slogan writings, Radio programs, Telecasting Quiz Competition, display of posters / boards in public transport vehicles and Railways, Organizing workshops for various stake holders in respect of environmental issues etc.
These programmes help in sensitizing the community of the areas about the need for conservation of Wildlife habitats for maintaining and upgrading the eco-system. In addition to awareness programmes, skill based trainings are also imparted to Self Help Groups to develop livelihood opportunities.
Under on-going scheme of Ministry of Environment & Forests, GoI, GEC to receives funds from MoEF, Govt. of India to develop the ENVIS centre. The Centre collects and collates environmental information in various sectors which can be used by environmentalists, researchers, students, government officers, etc.
Gujarat Ecology Commission has launched its website (www.gec.gov.in) wherein a huge environmental data in GIS format is uploaded in the form of matrix and maps, besides No. of Research studies on various environmental aspects.
Gujarat Ecology Commission conducts EIA for providing to Public Sector Undertakings as also Industries in undertaking studies on EIA. It has sufficient man-power in terms of Environmental Scientists, Zoologists, Botanists etc. Sometimes, other experts are also engaged for providing consultancies to GEC depending on the nature of the work.
Gujarat Ecology Commission also works as the evaluating agency for FDA’s (Forest Development Agency) and other agencies working in similar areas. So for six such evaluation reports have been prepared and submitted to the National Afforestation and Eco-development Board.
- Carried out Impact on Sanctuaries and Wildlife Assessment Report (ISWAR) preparation for Ambuja Cement Ltd.
- Completed Evaluation of activities carried out by Sabarkantha Forest Development Agency and submitted report.
- Completed fieldwork pertaining to 12 coastal Talukas around gulf of Khambhat to prepare Ecological profile.
- Conducted solar workshop for Government departments and other stake-holders.
- Completed EIA study for construction of CC block and Reclamation at Rozi Pier sponsored by Gujarat Maritime Board.
